Sukhumi lighthouse was granted the status of status cultral heritage of Georgia
On initiative of Ministry of Economy and sustainable Development of Georgia status of Cultural heritage of Georgia was awarded to Sukhumi lighthouse. The decision was made by National Agency of cultural heritage and reservation of Georgia on September 27, 2019. Reservation and maintenance of lighthouses located at the territory of Georgia is one of the main tasks of SHSG.
According to IALA recommendation (R1005) all maritime nations are advised to maintain and reserve lighthouses located on their territories in the purpose of popularization safe navigation and historical values of their architectural constructions, for increasing knowledge about meaning of protection life at sea and protection of sea environment.
Sukhumi lighthouse is constructed by French architecture Ernest Guen. The fact of awarding Sukhumi lighthouse as a monument of historical heritage of Georgia emphasizes its historical-architectural significance . In the future it will contribute to the international recognition and positioning of Georgia as a maritime nation.
